Hello all! And welcome to this new part of The Blonde Blogs. My name is Amanda and I will be your tour guide to the distant lands in the East — by this I mean Japan! But, before we start talking about all things かわいい (kawaii!!!), let me introduce myself a bit further…
Danielle and I became best friends at the tender age of … hmmm.. somewhere around twelve? After we got over our mutual fear of one another, we learned we also had other things in common—like our crazy wonderful moms, who were always quirky with a side of Walmart costume crazy. Overall, the years only brought us closer together, a friendship that crosses oceans just to see each other.
And now, to how I’ve found myself in Japan. Tokyo, to be precise….
I’ve always loved Japan and was fascinated by anime I had found on Cartoon Network when I was young. But the more I learned about Japan, the more unsatisfied I became. I wanted to experience it for myself. Not the fluffy cartoon version, but the real Japan, with a history unique to all others.
At sixteen, my family planned a trip to Japan, and I had never been more excited! I was treated to the streets of Tokyo and Harajuku, a view of the ancient capital of Nara and its people-loving and always hungry deer, as well as temples and castles that predated the American Constitution.
Now, ten years later, I’ve found myself living and working in Tokyo, the city I fell in love with so long ago. I’ve seen the beauty of the cherry blossoms in bloom, as well as the fire red leaves of the Japanese maple trees in the fall. I’ve seen the snow fall and heard the cicadas chirping in the summer heat, and all of this points to one thing—Japan is magical.
To my readers who have made it this far, and want to know more, stay tuned! I’ll post about all my experiences—the good, the bad, the magical, and the downright crazy. If you have any questions, please ask away!
